Advanced Open Water Certification

LEARN ABOUT ADVANCED OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION

Enroll in an Advanced Diver Course to explore new dive sites and undertake exclusive activities under the supervision of a Certified Instructor. This course allows individuals to learn about specialties and diving activities of particular interest. During training, students complete a minimum of six open-water dives, including three separate dives for navigation, night or low visibility diving, and deep diving (130 feet/40 meters of maximum depth), plus three additional dives based on your individual preferences and instructor discretion.

Once you are 15 years of age and a certified scuba diver, you can expand your diving knowledge with a Rescue Scuba Diver or Advanced Rescue Scuba Diver course.

Learn how to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies, how to assist and transport divers, and how to perform surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and scuba divers.

CPR and First Aid certifications are required to complete this course. Your Rescue Scuba Diver training moves you on your pathway to becoming a Leader as a Skin Diving Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster, or Instructor.


The Rescue Scuba Diver and Advanced Rescue Scuba Diver courses are for certified divers who desire additional training or orientation to a variety of diving sites and conditions. Divers must be a minimum of 15 years of age to enroll in a Rescue Scuba Diver course or 17 years of age to enroll in the Advanced Rescue Scuba Diver course. First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen Administration (NAUI/DAN)

Despite all the best training and planning, sometimes the unexpected happens. Whether due to environmental conditions, medical emergencies or accident, divers and professionals may be called upon to intervene.

LEARN ABOUT FIRST AID, CPR, AND OXEGYN ADMINISTRATION (NAUI/DAN)

In order to be prepared, NAUI provides training in First Aid, CPR, AED, Blood borne Pathogens, Oxygen Administration and First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries. All training complies with the latest International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) standards.


In addition to meeting requirements for leadership and dive safety, NAUI training is recognized by the US Coast Guard for meeting the requirements for a US Captain’s Licensing. Certification at the professional rescuer level is also required for all active NAUI leaders and instructors and rescue divers. With NAUI/DAN first aid training, you are not only among the best trained divers in the world, you will also be among the best prepared to respond in the unlikely event of a diving emergency or accident.

Nitrox Diver

Do you want to extend your bottom time, lessen your surface interval, and maximize every dive? Become a NAUI Enriched Air Nitrox diver! This course may be taught as a stand alone program or may be combined with other NAUI training programs such as NAUI Scuba Diver or NAUI Advanced Diver.

LEARN ABOUT NITROX DIVERS

During this course, you will learn how to choose the proper blend of Nitrox for your dive profile, determine maximum depth limits for your Nitrox mixture, analyze your breathing mixture, and plan and safely execute each dive. Your instructor will teach you about the physiology of oxygen and nitrogen; advantages, disadvantages, and risks of nitrox; oxygen toxicity; hazards and precautions of handling oxygen; the concept of Equivalent Air Depth; use of EANx with standard Air Dive Tables; common gas mixing procedures; and more.


After your exam, you can qualify for the Nitrox recognition card or go ahead and complete two dives to receive your Nitrox Diver certification card. And, your NAUI instructor can integrate your Nitrox course into your Scuba Diver course!



Minimum age for participation is 10 years (Junior EANx certification) or 15 years (EANx certification). Divers must be in good physical condition to enroll in a NAUI Enriched Air Nitrox Diver course. Participants may be enrolled in a NAUI Scuba Diver Course or must be certified as a NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent.

Refresher

A refresher is a chance where divers receive the assistance and supervision of a dive professional in a pool environment while they review the basic skills of diving.

Focus includes skills like buoyancy control, clearing flooded masks and monitoring air supply before moving on to other essential skills.


This class is recommended if:

  • A diver was certified Open Water but made no other dives after the course
  • The next dive is anything more than a few months later
  • A diver has less less than 20 logged dives
  • A Diver has 6-12 months out of the water

This is a fast-paced phase - it will be a series of dives that will take place Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Times will be determined by the instructor and communicated before class.  Required rental equipment and transportation to and from site is responsibility of each student.

This course is a continuing education certification course for divers who wish to increase their understanding and enjoyment of diving. Emphasis is on student participation and practical application of knowledge in open water after a classroom discussion of subjects.This course is an excellent progression toward NAUI Leadership roles.



Gain the in-depth knowledge and experience that will distinguish you as a leader in any diving club or group. Thrill to the adventure of open-water dives in settings that will test skills and expand your diving capabilities and experience. Your success allows you to proudly carry the most coveted and respected certification card in recreational diving – the Master Scuba Diver card.


During training, students will engage in a minimum of eight open-water dives, including the following required dives:

  • Emergency procedures and rescue
  • Deep/simulated decompression diving
  • Limited visibility or night diving
  • Underwater navigation – search and recovery – light salvage


You may also choose from many different dives for your elective dives, such as:

  • Skin diving
  • Environmental study or survey
  • Air consumption (practical application)
  • Boat diving

Individuals ages 15+ and who have an Advanced Scuba Diver certification (or its equivalent), may enroll in the Master Scuba Diver course.
